AI Breakfast Club - February

What is the future of Computer Vision?

There was a full house this morning at the AI Breakfast Club.

Discussing the theme of Computer Vision, guest speakers included Professor Gabriel Brostow, Simone Totaro, Gaurav Chawla and William Woof from Eye2Gene.

The pace of innovation in computer vision is staggering. From VLA models and CNN-Transformer blends to 3D generation and world models, new developments are fueling a wave of startups. These pioneers are delivering breakthrough technologies in diverse sectors, including robotics and medical-image-based genetic diagnostics.

The panel discussed the role of blending real-world data with synthetic to improve identification of rare events. Maturing research, specifically in automated video analytics, unlocks new layers of commercial value such as being able to accurately and efficiently search CCTV security footage.

Despite advancements, challenges persist, and the importance of trustworthiness over raw accuracy was emphasised. Real-world safety, validation and reliability is crucial.

Sharing insights, know how and predictions for the sector, the panel at the Breakfast Club discussion demonstrated the potential for UK startups to lead the way in Computer Vision.

Panel:

  • Professor of Computer Science at UCl and Chief Research Scientist for Niantic - Gabriel Brostow

  • Co-founder and CTO of Robotic Data platform Saturn - Simone Totaro

  • Chief of AI at Eye2Gene, William Woof
